Arbuckle Mountain Area Chapter
Quail Hunt and Youth Safety Program

Our first chapter quail hunt took place on a cool blustery day - much of the people in the area had colds and the flu has started to dig in.  We had good attendance and the kids had a great day out.  Charlie Clowe gave a superb Gun Safety Program (printout are included below), some of which are shown in a few video clips below.  Daron Henry brought a few QDMA members as well, which is a demonstration of the cooperative efforts underway to bring all forms of habitat improvement interests together in our area.

Alan and Greg Jones of Jones Sporting Clays guided the hunt and provide some super birds that were released around the d Bar b Rock Creek.  The dog work was excellent and challenged them in the plum thickets, brush piles and woody draws.

We hunted two flights of hunters and had kids and parents in each flight.  Focus was given to the kids as we educated them on how it's done.  Alan surprised a few of us with several pheasants - nothing like being startled by one of them when your 200 miles south of where they're supposed to be!

Afterwards we had a great cast-iron cookout with sizzled potatoes, Dutch oven refried beans and oak-grilled hamburgers and the fixins.
