Arbuckle Mountain Area Chapter |
We are asked all the time what quail cover should look like. It can be many things, but a key factor is that it be distributed well. Grant Huggins, wildlife biologist with Fresh Tracts LLC, says his rule is a 50' diameter thicket, every 50 yards. That's called the distribution, or the cover would want to be distributed in thickets the size of 50' in diameter at least every 50 yards in a checkerboard direction. |
Dale Rollins, Professor and Extension Wildlife Specialist with Texas Cooperative Extension (teamquail.tamu.edu), likes to think of it as softball throwing....you need cover about the distance you can throw a softball. |
